An Announcement from the Studio of Tami Slobodkin

It is with great pleasure that I announce that my student,
16 year old Maya Hasegawa, placed third in the finals of the prestigious Lucy Balakian Prize of the New York Young Performer’s Competition held in April.  This Competition requires each contestant to submit four videos representing repertoire from each of four different musical periods.  At the semi-final round Maya performed the Scarlatti Sonata in D, L. 46, the first movement of Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata, and Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude.  Her fourth entry was the Khatchaturian Toccata (1932).  At the Finals Honors Recital at Carnegie Hall in New York City, Maya will perform the first movement of the Beethoven Sonata Op. 13 and will receive her Medal and monetary Prize. Maya was also selected by concert artist Spencer Myers, to participate in a Master Class sponsored by the Massapequa Orchestra in May.  The Chopin Etude andthe Khatchaturian Toccata were selected for coaching.  Maya will end her 2019 studies playing an advanced (Preparatory D) programof seven pieces and three technical phases for the American College of Musicians also known as the National Guild  Auditions.
